Planning A Fancy Dress Hen Night?

Apparently, the phrase hen party or indeed hen night originates from middle eastern traditions where the bride-to-be would have a 'hennah night' with an all female party, or so our fancy dress researcher tells us anyway.

Today, the hen night is an important part of any woman's transition to married life. Retailing fancy dress, especially through the summer months we definitely see an increase in the amount of outfits sold that are en route to a group of excited ladies who are planning a hen party in Ibiza or even something a little more intimate and local.

Chances are you've been out on the town on a Saturday night and witnessed a group of excited giggly women celebrating the last night of freedom for one of their friends, at the very least the bride-to-be will be adorning an L plate and with somewhere in the region of 250,000 weddings every year, according to government statistics, that's a huge amount of L plates.

The popularity of hen night fancy dress has definitely grown over the last five years and with a growing supply of costumes and novelties and the ease of which they can be acquired from manufacturers is a testament to the demand of costumes like sexy cow girls and revealing nurses. Of course, we can't forget novelties which seem to be synonymous with a hen party such as the learner bride L plate and the willy shaped straws.

Jokers' Masquerade have three fancy dress themed hen night tips:
1. Never leave it to the last minute
Organisation is the key to having costumes ready for your party. If a friend accidentally gives you the wrong size to order or if an item gets lost by Royal Mail this can cause a lot of stress and right before the hen party. Leave time to allow for a mishap such as a friend taking longer than expected to choose an outfit.
2. Place your order at the same time
If there is a group of five women and they each source their costumes from different places, potentially that is a cost of five sets of postage, if you order together and pay one postage cost each person will be saving money.
3. Document the party with photos
Couples pay extortionate amounts of money for wedding photographers but can neglect the hen night. Get everyone to bring a camera and take lots of pictures. Once married the bride would love an album of photos wearing her hen night costume.
