Choosing a cake
Home›Choosing a cake
With so many options out there, the wedding cake can be an awkward part of any couples wedding planning. It's really worth sitting down one evening with some magazines or websites lined up, and get a feel for what you both think is good or bad in numerous designs; You'll eventually see a picture emerging of what you both find agreeable and what's not.
Cake makers are often faced with a young couple that have a completely blank canvas, and although they will come up with a great design eventually with patience, it really does help them to have a few pointers in the right direction.
Cupcakes are still very popular, as are cigarillo (chocolate cigar) lined cakes, and both can be decorated in various ways to fit around most themes. Iced cakes offer by far the most numerous options, as colours can be changed, patterns added, shapes created, offering literally thousands of potential designs. The simplest designs will still look classic and yet contemporary if you choose the right designer. Chocolate lined cakes are also a possibility, but please think carefully about the positioning of your cake in your venue if you decide to use a chocolate cake for a summer wedding. The sun is often amplified by windows, and a melted cake will not look very attractive in your wedding photos.
With everyone these days trying to cut their costs where possible, it's worth remembering that the supermarkets offer wedding cakes for those on tighter budgets. Although these often taste great, there are a few things worth bearing in mind before heading down this route.

Check what the cost will be for the design you select, and always check that delivery and setting up are either included in the cost or priced accordingly for you to decide on. You don't want to book the cake maker, then find that delivery and setting up might cost you a few hundred pounds extra at a later date.
It's always good to check feedback from previous clients if it's available, as this will tell you a lot about the company you've selected too.
Hopefully, if you've selected the perfect design, from a top class supplier, you will end up with nothing but top class results!

Although these often taste great, there are a few things worth bearing in mind before heading down this route.- Will you be able to create the look you require from a supermarket cake?
- Will someone be available to put the cake together for you on the day?
- Will they know how to correctly pillar and dowel the cake if required?
